A lot of limit hold’em players have been getting their feet wet with the great beast that has taken over the world called: No limit Texas Hold’em, only to find that what works in limit has no business in no limit.
What these players must realize is that this is a completely different game not just a variation. Sure you can win some of the time in small buy in tournaments and low stakes no limit games using the same repertoire that has been tried , true and tested and maybe you’ll be happy with that-that’s ok. Now for the rest of us that want to conjure the game and the world it’s time to break through the barriers and realize waiting all game for AA, KK, QQ, etc. isn’t going to win you the game, especially when some game they never come, you go out 4th or 5th and complain to your spouse, friend or neighbor that the cards just weren’t going your way and there was nothing you could do. Or was there. Did the winner only go in with the premium cards?, were a lot of the pots won with out ever seeing anyone’s cards? How about some of those cards that you had a “feeling” about but just couldn’t play because they were not of the usual caliber a good player like you would play. With this game you must not only break through your opponents exteriors and figure out how weak or strong they are but first and foremost you absolutely must be able to be in touch with yourself and your own intuition. I’m not saying to send roses to yourself on your birthday or climb to the highest peak and meditate (though the latter probably wouldn’t hurt and flowers do brighten up a room) You have to trust yourself , and be able to go with it. If you play enough and can concentrate and observe you should be able to get reads on weather or not they got the goods. It takes practice but the more you try and put people on a specific hand the better you will get at it. Now be prepared to be wrong a lot. There is a saying in no limit poker:
A beginner plays his hand
The intermediate plays the other people’s hands
And the expert plays the people
In order to achieve greatness your self confidence and ability to read your opponents will be the guiding force, and the cards importance will fade till it’s just a bunch of people playing on each others strengths and weaknesses who just happen to be holding 2 plastic cards.
